Powerline Networking

Do you have more than one computer in your home or office. Networked computers can share printers, files and internet connections. This is very convenient, but it means you have to physically connect the computers with wires to a box called a hub. Then you install and setup networking software and your computers can begin communicating.

Powerline Networks involve plugging in a powerline network device and connecting it to one computer. Now plug another one to the next computer and connect it to the second computer. You can keep connecting more computers.

Powerline Routers

Powerline networking device makes it easy to connect computers. Connected computers can share files, printers and Internet connections.

Powerline Networks connect your computers through your existing electrical system. Plug the units to an electrical outlet and connect the Powerline Network device to your computer or laptops USB port or Ethernet port.

Powerline Modems

A powerline modem is a device used to connect a computer to the Internet over the existing power lines. One company is getting set to release a device that "provides Internet service via satellite or high-speed connecton and then distributes the Internet service along power lines within a residential or commercial structre using a power line modem plugged into any electrial outlet."

HomePlug Powerline Alliance

The HomePlug Powerline Alliance includes Cisco Systems, Intel, RadioShack, Motorola and Hewlett-Packard, among others. The alliance has spent the past year working on a standard for using the existing electrical system in our homes and offices to link electronic devices like computers, phones, smart appliances and TV. Setting a standard will make it easy to connect electronic devices so they:

• can share Internet access
• play video games between computers
• enjoy music throughout the house
